“My initial thoughts about Skillful Living? It was just another group of people who come and talk a bunch of stuff, just like all other people who come through Madison. I don’t talk much, I watch more than I say, but I now realize my VOICE is my POWER because of what Skillful Living has taught me and they are pretty cool. Thank YOU! James Madison High, 12th Grade
Skillful Living Center comes around every week several times per day. At First I didn’t understand why they kept repeating the same thing. Mr. Jerome was honest and open and I began to trust him because I don’t trust easily. I was once homeless and I was bitter and angry at everyone. I am thankful for what Skillful Living has helped me to learn. Once I heard Mr. Jerome wasn’t coming back I was disappointed but Ms. Diane came in and stepped in his place with her smile and genuine caring ways, I was at ease again. I wish they could come here all the time. They’ listen, respect US and helped me to understand how to handle my anger and attitude. Regardless of my situation I control how I want to feel about myself and others. DAEP, 10th Grade
You guys are alright with me. I can sometime have and attitude with folks, they can sometime talk too much and get on my nerves, but what Skillful Living says now repeats in my head even when I don’t want to hear it. “Treat others how I wish to be treated.” Now my new outlook on life. Thanks to Skillful Living I’m learning how to treat others and that’s NOT something I usually do. James Madison High School, 12th Grade
Hearing the truth about SEX was pretty scary. It’s a lot of stuff out there I knew nothing about. I wasn’t considering Sex because I am too young, but NOW I really NOT going to do anything until I’m am older, ready and hopefully married. My Mother was happy that she did not have to tell me about this “Birds and Bees” stuff. Plus the activities are really Fun and Ms White is sometime funny and keeps us ready to learn about being better. TW BROWNE, 6th Grade
